As I walked into the restaurant with my mom, I looked around and I said, "I like this crowd." She agreed. We were among all of the Cracker Barrel rejects from the Sunday morning rush... but there was no regret. I love breakfast food, and Sunrise didn't disappoint. My mom and I split a Greek omelette. It was really tasty! The lamb chunks worked in the dish! The service was quick, and the people were friendly. There isn't much more you can ask for. I was pleased with this Terra Haute delight.

This place doesnt know the difference between eggs over easy vs cooked hard. They dont offer to fix their culinary mistskes, nor do they do a thing to correct the situation. Filthy environment, salty, greasy, and everything tastes instant or canned. Save your money and go somewhere else.

This is definitely a family restaurant filled with locals who all seem to know each other. Because we were just passing through, it was a nice enough place to stop for dinner. I had the side salad (a really nice size and very fresh) with the mushroom Swiss burger and thought it was good. Not huge, but plenty big. Hubby had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and white gravy and really enjoyed it. Sarah had the patty melt with onion rings. She said the skinny onion rings were better than the big fat ones and her patty melt had American cheese instead of Swiss, so she was disappointed with that. Overall, it's a solid place to stop while on the road, but our experience wasn't a WOW.....

Sunrise falls in the category of good for what it is. A locally owned place (which we always try to find when possible) with good food. There should be something here for everyone as the menu is sort of like War and Peace (prob too big). Service was fast and friendly, food was just fine, and we were in and out and back on the road with not even a dent in the wallet. All in all, not a bad place and very convenient when traveling on I70 through Terre Haute,

A nice, relaxed family atmosphere. This place is unassuming and that's just perfect for a town like this. The wait staff was professional, knowledgable, and friendly. The menu was full of possibilities, especially breakfast items and other Denny's-style fare. Pretty much everything was as I expected it to be, the prices were reasonable and everything seems (for the most part) homemade. The sliced turkey and ham for sandwiches is real turkey and ham, not mold-formed cold cuts, which is very impressive in an industry where shortcuts are deemed the only way to make a profit. I find the free soup a little odd, but hey, free soup! I think it would be nice to have another soup selection (there were only two choices when I visited) if the restaurant is going to push so much soup. Maybe a bit noisy, but it was full of people, so I'm not sure what else I could expect. As others have said, the inside is much more attractive than the outside, so don't let that dissuade you.

Wanted to try a local place on our overnight stop while driving cross country. As soon as our food arrived I regretted it. My turkey with 'dressing' and mashed potatoes was absolutely drowning in gravy. It was terrible. The onion rings were super greasy but the milkshake and club seemed ok hence the 2nd star. I would stick to the sandwiches and fries next time I try a place like this!

Huge menu! Clean restaurant (but doesn't look too pretty from the outside) Friendly staff, quick service Breakfast ALL DAY. Very reasonable prices. Not fancy, but not trying to be.

My wife and I stopped on the way back to Ohio from KC. This is your basic family owned restaurant with good, not great, food. I can't remember what we had but it filled the bill for a couple of hungry travelers. It would be fine for kids or large groups. Service was friendly and the price was right. It's right off of I-70, easy to get to. As always, there's no reason to go across the street to Cracker Barrel. Eat at this locally owned restaurant instead. You won't regret it.

Way better than the other nearby diner on 41. Food was very good, staff were all friendly and accommodating. The place was clean and casual. Prices were reasonable. I had a skillet with corned beef hash and it was very good. Overall it was a typical experience at a local diner, but I'd definitely be back.

I dropped into Sunrise while in Terre Haute for work. It is a very local and casual joint with a wide range of choices on the menu. If you are looking for something healthy and light, this is not your place. however, if you are looking for good home-style cooking then Sunrise is where it's at! I ordered the patty melt and was 100% satisfied. There was a friendly, local staff who was very welcoming to me as an out-of-towner. Very quaint, quick, and delicious!

This place has a suprisingly diverse menu with incredibly reasonable prices. It is within walking distance of most of the hotels in the area and right off I-70. It's a good place to go if you want to experience the true culture and food styles of rural Indiana.
